5 easy coastal spring refreshes

We may be waiting for March to leave like a lamb, but the warmer days are coming and the sun is setting past 7pm! Before we know it, we’ll be dusting off counters, shaking out door mats, and flinging open all the windows. As we count down the days, it’s the perfect time to do a little spring refresh ahead of the much-anticipated summer season.

1. Bring the outdoors in:

If you’re anything like me, you have a collection of shells, driftwood, and seaglass from your walks on the beach sitting in a jar on your entryway table. Take them all out, do some light washing, and display them! Even if it’s just in a prettier glass jar.

2. Create a lighter feel:

Swap out heavy curtains and dark-colored linens for lightweight fabrics and bright, airy hues. My go-to are sheer linen curtains, lightweight throws, and pillows in shades of white, blue, and green to create a tranquil and inviting atmosphere.

3. Honor local artists:

In small batches, replace stock, mass-produced artwork with local art. Check out the numerous local galleries (M.T. Burton Gallery, LBIF, and SwellColors Glass Studio are just a few to get you started) and reach out to artists whose style you love to see if they sell prints.

4. Switch it up:

Paint is one of the most versatile and quick ways to give your home a completely different vibe. Soft whites, pale blues, and sandy beiges will create a sense of openness and serenity, while bolder hues can inject personality and character into your space. 5. Refresh bedding:

Take stock of the state of your bedding - your pillows, bed linens, comforters, quilts. Has it been a few years? Choose lightweight fabrics such as linen or cotton in soothing coastal colors like aqua, coral, or sand. Layer different textures and patterns to create a cozy and inviting retreat that you'll love to sink into at the end of a long day at the beach.

With these easy spring refresh updates, you can transform your coastal home into a bright and breezy retreat that reminds you of seaside living.
