The Ultimate Guide to Long Beach Island’s Hidden Gems
Long Beach Island (LBI) is one of those places that sticks with you. Whether you grew up coming here every summer or just discovered its charm, there’s something special about this little slice of the Jersey Shore.
Sure, everyone knows the main spots - the big-name restaurants, the packed beaches - but what about the places that locals actually go? The coffee shops worth waking up early for, the best boutiques for a little retail therapy, and (most importantly) where to find parking with a bathroom nearby because let’s be real, when kids gotta go, they gotta go.
If you’re looking to experience LBI like an insider, here are my favorite hidden gems - the ones that make this place feel like home.
1. Best Coffee Spots
There’s no shortage of good coffee on LBI, but these are the places I actually find myself going back to again and again (and again).
📍 The Local (Ship Bottom) – If you love a good iced vanilla latte, theirs is hands-down the best. Plus, they have a full menu with amazing breakfast sandwiches, fresh pastries, and a laid-back, cozy vibe.
📍 The Mermaid Room (Ship Bottom) – A charming little coffee shop inside Beach Barn Boutique, perfect for grabbing a latte while browsing cute coastal finds.
📍 Guapo’s Coffee House (Beach Haven) – If you’re looking for something fresh and vibrant, this is your spot. Think açai bowls, fresh-pressed juices, and quality espresso - aka, a dream start to a beach day.
2. Beach Access with Parking & Bathrooms (Because Kids Gotta Go!)
We all love a great beach day, but let’s be real: parking and bathrooms make or break the experience. Here are the best family-friendly beach spots where you won’t be left scrambling.
📍 68th Street Beach (Brant Beach) – Public parking lot, clean bathrooms, and a nice wide stretch of beach. It’s a solid pick for families who need space to spread out.
📍 Ship Bottom Beach (Between 9th & 12th Streets) – This one’s a win for convenience - easy street parking, restrooms at the pavilion, and plenty of nearby spots for lunch or ice cream.
📍 Barnegat Light Beach (Near the Lighthouse) – A little quieter than the southern end of the island, but still has ample parking and restrooms nearby. Plus, you can take a walk to the lighthouse after a beach day.
3. Best Local Boutiques for Coastal Finds
LBI has some amazing small shops that deserve the spotlight. If you love coastal home decor, cute gifts, and effortless beachy fashion, these are the places to check out.
📍 The Dune Market (Beach Haven) – The perfect stop for curated home decor, stylish accessories, and pieces that feel effortlessly coastal. You can find me here most weekends picking up odds and ends for my clients!
📍 Allie May’s (Beach Haven) – A mix of vintage and modern, featuring unique gifts, timeless home accents, and a little bit of everything in between.
📍 Sink R Swim (Beach Haven) – If you’re looking for classic, high-quality beachwear, this is the spot. It’s a mix of casual coastal pieces and well-made wardrobe staples. See my branding photos? Thanks SRS!
4. Where Locals Eat (Beyond the Tourist Spots)
There are plenty of great restaurants on LBI, but these are the ones I keep going back to. If you’re looking for a good meal without the crowds, these are the places to try.
📍 Black Eyed Susans (Harvey Cedars) – A farm-to-table gem with seasonal dishes that are always fresh and flavorful. If you can snag a reservation, don’t think twice.
📍 Dune 18 (Ship Bottom) – A perfect mix of classic and creative dishes in a relaxed but elevated atmosphere. A great pick for date night or a nice dinner out.
📍 Isola (Beach Haven) – If you love house-made pasta and fresh seafood, this little Italian spot is a must. The seafood risotto? Unreal.
5. Best Sunset Spots on LBI
LBI sunsets never disappoint, but if you’re looking for the best seat in the house, these are the places to go.
📍 Sunset Park (Harvey Cedars) – One of my absolute favorite spots to watch the sun dip below the bay. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for a quiet moment at the end of the day.
📍 Viking Village Dock (Barnegat Light) – A different kind of sunset experience - watching the fishing boats come in while the sky turns pink over the water.
📍 Ship Bottom Boat Ramp (Ship Bottom) – A less crowded alternative to the Causeway, with a great panoramic view over the bay.
Plan Your Next LBI Getaway
There’s so much more to LBI than just the boardwalks and main streets. Whether you’re planning a summer vacation or just a weekend escape, these hidden gems will help you experience the island like a local.
