Project Reveal: A Family-Friendly Bayfront New Build

This project holds a special place in my heart—a beautiful bayfront home designed to reflect decades of family memories while making room for countless new ones. The home sits on a cherished family lot, where the original family house stood for decades. With sweeping views of the bay and the bridge, this stunning property offers the perfect backdrop for a forever home.

I was initially brought in by the builder as a selection specialist, collaborating with the clients on every detail of their new build. From designing the kitchen and selecting countertops to perfecting the bathrooms and choosing lighting, every decision was tailored to ensure the home felt timeless, functional, and uniquely theirs. Once the build was complete, the family asked me to continue the journey by furnishing the spaces where they’ll live, gather, and grow together.

Designing for family life

With three young kids and a busy lifestyle, this family needed a home that could keep up with their everyday summertime adventures. Every piece of furniture and fabric had to strike the perfect balance between functionality and style. Durable performance fabrics were non-negotiable, ensuring everything from movie nights to sticky fingers could be handled with ease - including passing on cushioned dining chairs and investing in a washable rug.

The overall aesthetic is clean and modern, with playful touches that make the home feel lively and welcoming. It’s a space where elegance meets approachability—a perfect match for their family-centered life.

Key spaces we brought to life

Open concept living, dining, and kitchen

This heart of the home is where the family spends most of their time, so we focused on creating a seamless flow between spaces. A cozy sectional anchors the living area while the dining table offers enough room for everyday meals and clear line of sight to the kids. In the kitchen, sleek countertops, a beachy accent island, and rattan lighting elevate the space while keeping it functional for a family of five.

Kids’ bunk room

With a four-year-old myself, I was ready to bring the fun. Every detail in this room was designed with fun and function in mind. We started with the whimsical wallpaper, a modern ocean wave print, and built the room from there. The bunks maximize space for the three siblings, featuring sunny bedding, bright accents, and playful decor to ensure it’s a space where the kids can relax, play, and grow together.

Guest room and primary suite

The guest room is a welcoming retreat, perfect for visiting family and friends. We kept the palette neutral with subtle coastal touches, allowing the bay views to take center stage.

In the primary suite, we leaned into a serene, spa-like feel, blending soft textures, layered linens, and sophisticated accents. It’s a peaceful retreat where the parents can unwind after a busy day.

Screened-in porch: Outdoor dining and living

This porch is a showstopper. With its breathtaking bay views, it’s the perfect space for both quiet mornings and lively evenings. An outdoor dining table and comfortable seating area make it ideal for hosting summer barbecues or enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets over the bridge.

A house becomes a home

Seeing this project come to life has been incredibly rewarding. It’s more than just a house—it’s a home where this family will create memories for years to come. From the initial selection process to the final touches of furnishing, every decision was made with their lifestyle and love for the bay in mind.

I’m thrilled to have been part of their journey and can’t wait to see how they make this house their own.
