5 easy ways to refresh your coastal home for Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day Weekend always feels like the unofficial start of summer on the shore. Whether you're hosting guests, settling in for the season, or just craving a little reset after a long winter, now is the perfect time to give your home a fresh lift. You don’t need a full renovation to make your space feel new again - just a few thoughtful swaps can go a long way. Here are five easy updates I love for kicking off summer in a laid-back, coastal way.
1. Lighten up your textiles
Swap out heavy throws and darker pillows for breezy layers that feel like summer. I gravitate toward linen blends, gauzy cotton, and crisp whites mixed with soft coastal blues. Performance fabrics are a must in beach homes, especially with sandy toes, kids, and pets coming in and out.
Quick tip: Layer a neutral base (white, ivory, or sand) with one or two patterned pillows to make a space feel effortless but pulled together.
2. Restyle the entryway
Your entry sets the tone, especially if you're welcoming guests this season. Add a woven basket for flip flops, freshen up your doormat, and pop a small vase of greenery or beach grass on your console table.
Quick tip: A striped runner or jute rug instantly warms up the space and nods to coastal living without being too themey.
3. Get the outdoors ready
It’s officially deck season! Even if your outdoor space is small, creating a little spot for morning coffee or golden-hour cocktails makes all the difference. Bring in washable outdoor pillows, lanterns with flameless candles, and a tray for drinks or snacks.
I’m also a big fan of layering an outdoor rug; it pulls everything together and makes it feel like a true extension of your home.
4. Add guest-ready touches
If you're hosting family or friends, a few small updates go a long way in making them feel welcome. Layer the guest bed with a light quilt or throw, set out fresh towels, and keep a stash of snacks and seltzers in the fridge. A framed Wi-Fi password in the guest room? Always appreciated.
5. Source locally
One of my favorite ways to freshen up a space is with a little something new from a favorite local spot. If you’re on LBI this weekend, pop into places like How to Live, The Dune Market, and Garden State Surf & Art to find unique coastal accents. Even a simple ceramic dish or piece of art can bring fresh energy into your home.
Memorial Day weekend is the perfect excuse to slow down, open the windows, and give your home a little extra attention. These simple updates are a great way to ease into the season and make your space feel fresh, relaxed, and ready for whatever summer brings.
If you're dreaming of a bigger change this season, I’d love to help bring it to life.
